Anna Steinert (Krefeld, Germany, 1983) works across painting, dra wing, object-making, and video, articulating a vivid, sensorial visual language grounded in her distinctive chromatic spectrum. Using oil sticks in sweeping, saturated gestures, she throws, smears, and presses color onto the surface—each mark asserting its autonomy before merging into organic, affective landscapes. Her installation Mask Tree (2025) features mask objects and other sculptural objects made from natural materials such as straw, plaster, and paper, composed like fruits hanging from a tree. These elements embody the animistic force traditionally attributed to masks and ritual artifacts, serving as tools for ceremonial extension. Inspired by the symbolic role of trees as ritual sites, prophetic agents, and carriers of hidden messages, the installation, in dialogue with her paintings, evokes flows of transformation, communication, and energy—offering imaginative tools for relating to worlds beyond the self.
