As an "observer," Vio Choe delivers all the information, wisdom, and love in the form of paintings, and spreads infinite energy and possibilities to the audience. He was inspired by the observer effect of quantum physics that while all electrons, molecules, and particulates remain as waves when unseen, they turn into particles only when the observer sees them. Based on this cosmological principle, he contains the most primitive and positive energy, such as an appreciation for existence, and love in his works.
Choe's work begins from his inner universe. For him, painting is another form of language expressed in the realm of instinct and unconsciousness, through which he meets the invisible world. The artist wants to feel the vibration of energy in the unknown world and deliver it without distortion.
Although his body of work cannot be fully explained in language, as is said, extremes have in common, and so are his works. They are based on a firmly constructed universe beyond various ideas discovered by humans or in languages, such as modern physics, Oriental philosophy, and the Zen of Buddhism. Everything is connected, and the energy that forms is unstable but balanced. The artist holds in his paintings the smallest but infinite, instant, and eternal, to make finite and Infinite communicate.
최비오는 모든 정보, 지혜, 사랑을 가지고 있는 에너지들을 관찰자로서 그림의 형태로 전달해주며, 무한한 에너지와 가능성을 관객들에게 전파한다. 모든 전자, 분자, 미립자들은 관찰자가 보기 전엔 파동 상태로 있고 관찰자가 봤을 때 비로소 입자로 바뀐다는 양자물리학의 관찰자 효과를 바탕으로 하며, 이러한 우주원리를 기반으로 가장 원초적인 에너지, 존재에 대한 감사, 사랑과 같은 긍정적 에너지를 담는다.
최비오의 작업은 작가 내면의 우주에서 시작한다. 그림은 최비오에게 본능과 무의식의 영역에서 발현된 다른 차원의 언어이며, 그는 그림을 통해 보이지 않는 세계와 만난다. 작가는 눈으로 보이는 것만이 아닌 불가지의 세계 속 에너지의 진동을 몸 전체로 느끼며 왜곡 없이 전달하고자 한다.
언어로 설명될 수 없는 최비오의 작품세계이지만 극과 극은 서로 통한다는 말로 그의 예술 세계에 다가갈 수 있다. 최비오는 현대물리학, 동양의 정신 세계, 불교의 선 등 인간이 발견 또는 언어로 만들어낸 다양한 사상들을 초월한 확고한 우주관을 바탕으로 작업한다. 세상의 만물은 하나로 연결되어 있고, 이를 이루는 에너지는 불안정한 상태로 만물의 균형을 이룬다. 작가는 가장 작은 동시에 무한하고 찰나이지만 영원한 것을 담는다. 이렇게 최비오의 작품은 유한과 무한이 소통하는 길을 열어두고 있다.
