Nathan Coley, ‘I Don’t Have Another Land’, 2022

Frieze London & Frieze Masters

Nathan Coley’s text works are created using existing phrases that come from overheard conversations, song lyrics, news reports, books and other found texts. ‘I Dont Have Another Land’ was a piece of graffiti he found on a wall in Jerusalem in the early 2000s. The phrases used in Coley’s text work take on new meaning in each place they’re exhibited.

Coley’s illuminated text work has been exhibited on a wall of Eastbourne Library, UK, throughout the duration of the Turner Prize 2023 and in front of Tate Modern. In 2007 Coley was nominated for the Turner Prize, and his work is held in private and public collections internationally.
