MISHA KAHN American, b. 1989

Misha Kahn (b. 1989) is an artist based in Brooklyn, New York. His works function as furniture−chairs, mirrors, lights, tables−but also cross the boundaries between form and concept as well as aesthetics and practicality, only to be characterized by their avant-garde shapes. Described as “disheveled, spontaneous maximalism”—and based on a technique of assemblage—his world of art consists of serendipitous and fluid outcomes that are created through a bold combination of everything from handmade materials to cutting-edge techniques.

Since first making a name for himself in the art world at the Whitney Biennial 2014 in New York, Misha Kahn has been busy exhibiting at major institutions around the world. He received the award for “Best of Show Contemporary Work” at Design Miami 2021, and held his first institutional solo exhibition, Wobble Moon. Objects from the Capricious Age, at the Museum Villa Stuck in Munich, Germany, in 2022. In 2023, he also made a strong impression on the public when he was one of the three finalists on the American art survival show The Exhibit: Finding the Next Great Artist. His work is in the collections of the Corning Museum of Glass, New York; the Dallas Museum of Art, Texas; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, California; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas; and the Speed Art Museum, Louisville, Kentucky.

2014년 뉴욕 휘트니 비엔날레에서 처음 이름을 알린 미샤 칸은 2021년 디자인 마이애미에서 ‘Best of Show Contemporary Work’ 부문을 수상하였고, 2022년엔 독일 뮌헨의 빌라 스턱 미술관에서 첫 기관 개인전인 《Wobble Moon. Objects from the Capricious Age》를 여는 등 해외 주요 기관에서 활발하게 전시를 이어가고 있다. 2023년엔 미국 아트 서바이벌 쇼 ‘The Exhibit: Finding the Next Great Artist’에서 최종 3인에 오르면서 대중들에게도 강력한 인상을 심어 주었다. 그의 작품은 뉴욕 주 코닝 유리 미술관, 텍사스 주 달라스 미술관, 캘리포니아 주 로스앤젤레스 카운티 미술관, 텍사스 주 휴스턴 미술관, 켄터키 주 루이빌 스피드 미술관에 소장되어 있다.
