MATT COLLISHAW

Overview

A member of yBa (Young British Artists) that spearheads British contemporary art, Mat Collishaw mainly takes inspiration from nature, mythology, and media, and recreates it with various media such as sculpture, photography, and media, dealing with themes of ‘expression’ and ‘fantasy’ in his own unique way.

He started to be known as a major artist of the yBa group after creating a sensation with his work <Bullet Hole> (1988) at the 1988 exhibition Freeze organized by Damien Hirst (1965- ). The work, which creates the illusion of a bullet in a person's head, is currently in the collection of the Museum of Old and New Art in Australia. Each of his works has attracted the attention of the art world, and his works are in the collections of various art institutes around the world, including Centre Pompidou in Paris, Scottish National Gallery, and SFMOMA.

Mat Collishaw has a reputation as an artist who still creates sensation, holding solo exhibitions at renowned art institutions including Benaki Museum in Athens (2010), the V&A Museum in London (2010, 2012), MAD in New York (2011), Yapi Kredi Kultur in Istanbul (2018), and Royal Museums Greenwich in London (2018).

맷 컬리쇼는 데미안 허스트(1965-)가 기획한 1988년 프리즈에서 그의 작품 <Bullet Hole> (1988)로 센세이션을 일으킨 후, yBa 그룹의 주요 아티스트로 이름을 알리기 시작했다. 마치 사람 머리에 총알이 박혀 있는 듯한 착시를 불러일으키는 이 작품은 현재 호주 신구박물관에 소장 중이며, 그가 발표한 작품마다 미술계의 주목을 받아 파리 퐁피두센터, 스코틀랜드 국립 미술관, 샌프란시스코 현대미술관 등 전 세계 다양한 미술관에 그의 작품이 소장되어 있다.

맷 컬리쇼는 아테네 베나키 미술관(2010), 런던 빅토리아 앨버트 박물관(2010, 2012), 뉴욕 아트디자인 박물관(2011), 이스탄불 야피 아트센터(2018), 런던 왕립 그리니치 박물관(2018) 등 해외 유수 예술 기관에서 개인 전을 선보이며 여전히 센세이션을 일으키는 예술가로 명성이 자자하다.
