Overview
PARK EUN SUN Time of a Breathing Stone
“All the arts are Hermes-esque. Otherwise, they are not art. A Hermes-esque poet does not Understand. He sees.”
- H. Rombarch

PARK EUN SUN: Time of a Breathing Stone

16 May - 30 June 2018

The Page Gallery EAST

Eun-sun Park acquired a taste of stone as a material while learning sculpture in Korea, before leaving to follow a lifelong friend to Italy. Since then, she has been practicing the same routine for twenty-five years now. She works the same hours every day and gets along with the same neighborhoods. Historian Yuval Noah Harari speculates that religion or ideology was the only power, with which the ancient people could set up the gigantic monument that weighs over fifty tons and as large as 30m in width in Göbeklitepe, Turkey. Through such a historic relic, we learn that the carved stone stele is not merely a record of the dead, preserved in nature, but a symbol of aspiration for the afterlife and an entity of memory. Like the ancient monument, the sculptures of Eun-sun Park hold a certain aspiration. As the simple act of piling up a stone pagoda has been being repeated throughout the eons of time, the chasm, or the crack, of her sculpture exists like a micro-universe which bolsters and maintains this world. It is also a space-time in which the East and the West, the Western concept of infinity and the Eastern idea of circulation, encounter one another.

16 May - 30 June 2018
