The Weird And The Eerie
13 Jun - 26 Jul 2024 The Page Gallery presents the works of Eunsil Lee, Jinn Bronwen Lee, Hyunwoo Lee, and Jin Han, who are active both in Korea and internationally. The exhibition title, 《The Weird and the Eerie》, is derived from Mark Fisher’s 2016 cultural critique essay of the same name. Fisher defines 'the weird' as the anxiety from encountering the inexplicable and 'the eerie' as the discomfort and ambiguity when the familiar becomes strange. Both concepts are connected to the external world and act as portals to deeper truths about the human condition. The exhibition features works that confront the inexplicable, embrace the unfamiliar, and engage with the ambiguity that disrupts our cultural landscape.
더페이지갤러리는 현재 한국과 국제무대에서 활발히 활동하는 이은실, 이진, 이현우, 한진의 작업을 소개한다. 전시 제목 《기이한 것과 으스스한 것》은 마크 피셔가 2016년 출판한 동명의 문화비평 에세이에 기인한다. 피셔는 '기이한 것'을 설명할 수 없는 것과의 만남에서 오는 불안감으로, '으스스한 것'을 익숙한 것이 낯설게 느껴지며 기대의 부재에서 오는 불편함과 모호함으로 정의한다. 두 개념은 모두 외부 세계와 연관되어 있으며 인간 조건에 대한 더 깊은 진실을 들여다볼 수 있게 하는 일종의 포털 역할을 한다. 전시는 이처럼 이성적 설명이 불가능한 것에 맞서고, 낯선 것을 포용하며, 우리의 문화적 풍경을 어지럽히는 모호함과 교감을 요청하는 작업들로 구성되었다.
